Ethiopia’s
national digital identity initiative, Fayda, has surpassed 40 million
registrations, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital
transformation efforts.
The
achievement was announced by the Modular Open Source Identity Platform, which
has supported the development of the system, and reflects rapid progress in
scaling digital identification across the country in under two years.
The
Fayda program, implemented by the Government of Ethiopia, has enrolled more
than a quarter of the population while integrating over 130 government agencies
and private sector institutions into the identity ecosystem.
The
expansion of the platform is expected to enhance access to public and private
services, strengthen identity verification processes, and support broader
digital inclusion initiatives.
MOSIP,
which has been involved in the initiative for several years, noted that the
pace and scale of the rollout underscore Ethiopia’s commitment to building a
robust and interoperable digital identity infrastructure.
