The
South China University of Technology has conferred an Honorary Professorship on
South Africa’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande,
in recognition of his contributions to advancing scientific collaboration
between the two countries.
The
official certificate was presented by Wu Peng during a special ceremony held
this week.
The
recognition underscores the growing strength of bilateral scientific
cooperation between South Africa and China, which continues to yield tangible
outcomes across research, infrastructure development, and talent exchange.

Ongoing collaborations include joint research facilities, exchange programmes
for young scientists, and participation in large-scale scientific initiatives
such as the Square Kilometre Array.
In
his remarks, Minister Nzimande described the honour as a reflection of the
shared commitment between the two nations to leverage science, technology, and
innovation in addressing global challenges and promoting equitable development.
The
award further highlights the strategic importance of international partnerships
in strengthening national innovation systems and advancing scientific progress
across borders.
