The South China University of Technology has conferred an Honorary Professorship on South Africa’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, in recognition of his contributions to advancing scientific collaboration between the two countries.

The official certificate was presented by Wu Peng during a special ceremony held this week.

The recognition underscores the growing strength of bilateral scientific cooperation between South Africa and China, which continues to yield tangible outcomes across research, infrastructure development, and talent exchange.

Ongoing collaborations include joint research facilities, exchange programmes for young scientists, and participation in large-scale scientific initiatives such as the Square Kilometre Array.

In his remarks, Minister Nzimande described the honour as a reflection of the shared commitment between the two nations to leverage science, technology, and innovation in addressing global challenges and promoting equitable development.

The award further highlights the strategic importance of international partnerships in strengthening national innovation systems and advancing scientific progress across borders.
