The
Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat,
Wamkele Mene, has participated in a high-level roundtable focused on
accelerating the implementation of key continental integration frameworks.
The
discussions took place on the sidelines of the World Bank Group Spring Meetings
in Washington, D.C., bringing together stakeholders to examine progress and
challenges across Africa’s trade and mobility landscape.

Held
under the theme “Three Pillars, One Integration Agenda,” the roundtable
addressed efforts to advance the African Continental Free Trade Area, the
Single African Air Transport Market, and the Free Movement Protocol as
interconnected drivers of continental integration.
Participants
focused on identifying and addressing operational constraints affecting trade
flows, air connectivity, and the movement of people across borders. The meeting
also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between public and private
sector actors to unlock the full potential of these frameworks.

The
engagement forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic integration,
enhance intra-African trade, and improve mobility across the continent, in line
with Africa’s long-term development agenda.
