The
Government of Angola, in partnership with the United Nations Development
Programme, has signed an agreement to establish the timbuktoo Angola AgriTech
Centre of Excellence, a regional hub aimed at advancing agricultural innovation
and digital transformation.

The
project, to be implemented in Huambo Province, is being coordinated by the
Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and with support
from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Officials
said the centre will focus on promoting youth entrepreneurship, supporting
agricultural startups, and accelerating the digitalisation of agricultural
value chains as part of broader efforts to modernise the sector.
The
initiative also seeks to position Angola as a leading hub for agri-innovation
in Africa, contributing to regional development and strengthening the country’s
role in technology-driven agriculture.

The
AgriTech Centre forms part of the wider timbuktoo pan-African initiative led by
the United Nations Development Programme, which aims to scale innovation
ecosystems across the continent.
Authorities
indicated that the project will play a key role in fostering innovation,
enhancing productivity, and creating new opportunities for young entrepreneurs
within Angola’s agricultural sector.
