Guinea
has hosted the opening of a foundational workshop for the Virtual Academy of
the CAMES (AVI-CAMES), a new initiative aimed at transforming higher education
and research through digital innovation across Africa.
The
workshop, held in Conakry was presided over by the Minister of Higher Education
and Scientific Research, Diaka Sidibé, who underscored the importance of
strengthening academic collaboration and digital capacity within the continent.

The
AVI-CAMES platform, developed under the Conseil Africain et Malgache pour
l’Enseignement Supérieur, is designed to provide scientific, pedagogical, and
digital services to universities and research institutions across member
states. The initiative aims to expand access to academic resources, enhance
distance learning capabilities, and promote knowledge sharing among African
higher education institutions.
Officials
indicated that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen
cooperation in higher education, scientific research, and digital innovation
across Africa. The platform is also expected to support the development of
teacher-researchers, improve the quality of education, and facilitate equitable
access to digital learning tools.

The
launch of AVI-CAMES forms part of Guinea’s wider ambition to modernise its
education system and contribute to regional academic integration, in line with
national development priorities under the leadership of Mamadi Doumbouya.
Stakeholders
at the workshop highlighted the potential of the initiative to accelerate
digital transformation in higher education and position African institutions to
better respond to evolving global academic and research demands.
