The
Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation has officially launched its first
Commonwealth Digital Roadshow on the African continent in Maseru, marking a
significant milestone in the organisation’s digital development agenda.
The
event, which commenced on April 20, 2026, is being held alongside the 64th
Council Meeting of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, bringing
together member states from Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific, and
Europe for high-level discussions on the future of digital transformation.

In
his keynote address, the Prime Minister of Lesotho highlighted the role of
digital transformation as a key driver of national development, innovation, and
economic opportunity.
Minister
of Communications, Science and Technology Nthati Moorosi welcomed participants
and emphasized Lesotho’s commitment to inclusive digital growth. She noted that
the country’s National Digital Strategy is designed to ensure broad
participation and access, positioning Lesotho as a focal point for ICT dialogue
within the Commonwealth during the event.
Bernadette
Lewis, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation,
called for the responsible use of information and communication technologies to
strengthen shared values, preserve cultural identity, and maintain human
connection in an increasingly digital world.

Also
addressing the gathering, Martine Sobey commended the CTO on its 125th
anniversary and praised the Government of Lesotho for hosting the inaugural
African edition of the Digital Roadshow. She described the initiative as an
important platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, highlighting the
organisation’s people-centred approach to technology.
The
combined Roadshow and Council Meeting are expected to foster innovation,
strengthen partnerships, and advance a more inclusive and cooperative digital
future across Commonwealth member states.
