The
64th Council of Member States of the Commonwealth
Telecommunications Organisation has officially commenced in the Kingdom
of Lesotho, bringing together delegates
from across Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific, and Europe to advance
digital development across the Commonwealth.

The Council opened with remarks from Lesotho’s
Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Nthati Moorosi, who reaffirmed the country’s
commitment to strengthening partnerships and fostering collaboration among
member states. She emphasised the importance of ensuring that digital
transformation initiatives remain inclusive and deliver tangible impact, while
positioning Lesotho as an active contributor to the Commonwealth’s digital
agenda.
Chairing the Council, Agaseata Tanuvasa Valelio Peto, Minister from Samoa, commended the Government of Lesotho for
hosting the gathering and highlighted the significance of convening the Council
alongside the Commonwealth Digital Roadshow. He noted that Lesotho’s progress
in digital transformation offers valuable lessons for other member states and
praised the collaborative spirit underpinning the organisation’s work.

In a symbolic gesture reflecting the
unity of Commonwealth nations, Minister Peto presented gifts from Samoa to
Minister Moorosi and Bernadette Lewis,
Secretary-General of the CTO, underscoring the enduring ties among member
countries.
Discussions
at the Council are expected to focus on policy development, partnerships, and
practical solutions aimed at accelerating digital transformation and ensuring
inclusive access to digital opportunities across the Commonwealth.
