Namibia’s
Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, together
with Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and
Social Communication, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, has visited the Equiano
Subsea Cable Landing Station at the Hage Heights Data Center in Swakopmund to
assess progress on a major regional connectivity project.

The
visit focused on the development of the Southern African Regional Submarine
System (SARSSy), a new undersea cable being implemented by Angola Telecom. The
system is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity between
Namibia, Angola and other countries along the west coast of Southern Africa.
Officials
indicated that the SARSSy cable will leverage modern transmission technologies
to deliver higher data capacity and improved network reliability, with an
estimated operational lifespan of approximately 25 years.

The
inspection forms part of ongoing bilateral efforts to strengthen cross-border
digital infrastructure and expand broadband capacity, reinforcing both
countries’ commitment to advancing regional integration and digital
transformation.
