The
Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has
held high-level discussions in Lagos focused on strengthening Africa’s health
security and advancing health sovereignty across the continent.
Jean
Kaseya met with Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote during his visit on 24
April, in a meeting also attended by Prof. Benedict Oramah.
The
discussions centred on strategies to reinforce local manufacturing capacity for
health products, expand private sector participation in the health ecosystem,
and enhance the resilience of health systems across Africa.

Participants
highlighted the importance of reducing dependency on external supply chains by
investing in domestic production capabilities and fostering stronger
collaboration between public health institutions and private industry.
The
meeting also explored opportunities for catalysing investment into Africa’s
health sector, with a focus on building sustainable systems capable of
responding effectively to future health emergencies.
The
engagement forms part of broader continental efforts led by the Africa CDC to
strengthen health security frameworks and promote self-reliance in critical
health infrastructure and services.
