Ghana’s
Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey
George is participating in the International Telecommunication Union
Ministerial Retreat for Council Member States, where discussions are focused on
shaping the future direction of global digital cooperation in a rapidly
evolving technological landscape.
The
session was led by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, who emphasized
the need for strengthened collaboration and strategic alignment to guide the
Union’s next phase of development and impact.

The
ITU Council Working Group also convened to develop the organization’s Strategic
and Financial Plan for the 2028–2031 period. Key discussions centered on
defining priorities, aligning financial resources, and ensuring measurable
outcomes that respond to the evolving global digital environment.
The
planning process builds on ongoing reforms and transformation efforts
undertaken over the past three years, with a continued focus on expanding
global connectivity, bridging the digital divide, and strengthening inclusive
digital development.

The
outcomes of the retreat are expected to guide the ITU’s work in supporting
member states as they adapt to emerging technologies and advance sustainable
digital transformation worldwide.
