Nigeria’s
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani has
presided over his first plenary session as Chair of the International
Telecommunication Union Council, marking a new phase of leadership within the
global telecommunications body.

In
his remarks, Tijani described the role as a responsibility to steward an
institution built on trust, cooperation, and shared progress, emphasizing the
importance of guiding discussions and decisions that will shape the digital
future of billions of people worldwide.
He
highlighted the need for collective leadership and purposeful action to ensure
the continued relevance and strength of the Union in an increasingly complex
and rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Tijani
also underscored the importance of building on the foundations established by
previous leadership, while positioning the organization to respond effectively
to emerging technological and policy challenges.
His
leadership comes at a time when the ITU is playing a central role in advancing
global connectivity, digital inclusion, and international cooperation on
digital development.
