The
U.S.–Africa AI Symposium has been held in Nairobi, bringing together
governments, technology companies, investors, and development partners to
discuss how African countries can access advanced artificial intelligence
infrastructure to drive economic growth and innovation.
The
event was co-organised on the margins of AI Everything x GITEX Kenya in
partnership with BCIU, the United States Embassy in Kenya, the U.S. Department
of Commerce, USTDA, and global technology firms including Google, Meta, Oracle,
Visa, IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, and GE HealthCare.

The
symposium focused on advancing innovation, investment, and economic development
across Africa, with particular emphasis on improving access to the U.S. AI
technology stack. Discussions examined how such access could support
productivity gains, attract investment, and enable governments and private
sector actors to address development challenges.
Participants
also explored enabling environments for AI investment, real-world applications
of artificial intelligence, and strategies for integrating AI into national
development priorities across East Africa and the broader continent.

Ambassador
Philip Thigo, Special Envoy on Technology to the President of the Republic of
Kenya, noted that the symposium provided a platform for cross-sector
collaboration aimed at unlocking the potential of AI to solve Africa’s complex
development challenges while supporting inclusive economic growth.
The
event underscored growing global interest in Africa’s digital transformation
agenda and the role of strategic partnerships in shaping the continent’s AI
future.
