Africa's technology startup ecosystem continues to gain momentum as the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme marks significant achievements in supporting entrepreneurs across the continent.

Reflecting on the recent Demo Day for the programme's 10th cohort, Alex Okosi, Managing Director for Africa at Google, highlighted the determination and resilience demonstrated by African founders who are building innovative solutions despite the challenges associated with scaling businesses in emerging markets.

According to Okosi, the latest cohort brought together 15 startups from across Africa, showcasing solutions designed to address local and global challenges. He emphasized that entrepreneurship requires exceptional courage, particularly in environments where founders must continuously convince customers, investors and markets of the opportunities they are pursuing.

The accelerator programme provides participating startups with access to Google's expertise, technical infrastructure, mentorship and insights from building and operating a global technology company. The objective is to equip founders with the tools and resources needed to scale sustainable and impactful businesses.

Since its launch in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme has supported more than 106 startups from 17 African countries. Collectively, these companies have raised over $350 million in funding and created more than 3,700 jobs, underscoring the growing contribution of technology-driven enterprises to Africa's economic development.

The programme has become one of the continent's notable startup support initiatives, helping founders refine their products, strengthen business models and access networks that can accelerate growth.
