The UK–Ethiopia Trade and Investment Forum, held in London on 18 June 2026, has spotlighted the digital economy as a key pillar of Ethiopia’s broader economic transformation agenda, alongside traditional sectors such as energy, infrastructure and manufacturing.

The forum brought together government officials, investors and business leaders from both countries to explore investment opportunities, economic reforms and ways to strengthen bilateral commercial ties. Discussions covered a wide range of sectors including logistics, agribusiness, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining and digital services.

Safaricom Ethiopia Telecommunications PLC participated in the forum, represented by Chairman of the Advisory Board Ermias Eshetu and Chief External Affairs Officer Dr. Andualem Admassie. The company contributed to discussions focused on Ethiopia’s evolving telecommunications landscape and the role of digital infrastructure in driving inclusive economic growth.

Speaking during a session on ICT and the digital economy, Dr. Admassie highlighted ongoing digital transformation efforts in Ethiopia, including telecom sector reforms, expansion of digital infrastructure, and initiatives aimed at increasing financial and digital inclusion.

He noted that digital transformation has become essential for economic development, stating that it serves as a critical enabler of growth, inclusion and social development. He further emphasized that continued investment in connectivity and digital services would position Ethiopia to accelerate innovation, create jobs and unlock new opportunities for businesses and communities.
