Benin's Personal Data
Protection Authority (APDP-Benin) has showcased the country's experience in
digital regulation and personal data governance at the second edition of the
International Forum on Personal Data Protection held in Lomé, Togo.
The two-day forum, held on the
theme "Protection of Personal Data: Securing Trust Capital, Controlling
Risks," brought together data protection authorities, policymakers,
regulators, private sector representatives and experts from across Africa to
discuss data governance, cybersecurity, digital trust and technological
sovereignty.
APDP-Benin President Luciano
Hounkponou participated as a panelist, delivering a presentation on the role of
data protection authorities as key actors in digital regulation and strategic
partners of data controllers.
During the session,
Hounkponou highlighted Benin's approach to supporting data controllers,
strengthening regulatory compliance and promoting a culture of responsible
personal data management among public institutions and private organisations.
He also outlined the
authority's ongoing efforts in public awareness, compliance support, monitoring
and enforcement aimed at enhancing trust in digital technologies among
citizens, businesses and government institutions.
