The Ghana Domain Name
Registry (GDNR) is using the National ICT Week 2026 to raise awareness of the
importance of Ghana’s country-code top-level domain, .gh, in strengthening
digital identity, consumer trust and the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The event, organised by the
National Information Technology Agency (NITA), is being held at the Cedi
Conference Centre of the University of Ghana, Legon, under the theme
“Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem.”
GDNR has established an
exhibition booth at the event where its representatives are engaging
businesses, startups, technology professionals and other participants on the
benefits of adopting Ghanaian domain names.
The registry is highlighting
domain extensions including .com.gh, .edu.gh and .org.gh as tools for
businesses and institutions seeking to establish a distinct Ghanaian digital
identity, strengthen brand credibility and build consumer confidence online.
The GDNR team is also using
the exhibition to educate participants about domain registration and
management, as well as the organisation’s statutory responsibilities in
administering and regulating Ghana’s national domain name space.
The engagement has attracted
government officials, policymakers and industry stakeholders, including Deputy
Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital
Technology and Innovations Mohammed Adam Sukparu, GDNR and NITA Chairperson
Estelle Akofio-Sowah, members of the NITA Board and NITA Director-General Nana
Yaw Amoah-Yeboah.
GDNR said the participation
reflects a broader national effort to strengthen Ghana’s digital identity and
promote a secure and trusted digital environment.
The registry’s mandate is
carried out under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772), with its
administration of the national domain name space guided by international best
practices.
