Namibia hosts high-level ICT engagement in Oshana Region to drive digital development

Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, together with Oshana Region Governor Hofni Iipinge, has convened a High-Level ICT Stakeholders’ Engagement aimed at strengthening digital development and improving ICT services in the region.

The engagement brought together government officials, ICT industry representatives, traditional authorities, business leaders, and community stakeholders to discuss digital priorities, connectivity challenges, and opportunities for regional innovation and development.

In his opening remarks, Governor Iipinge highlighted the role of information and communication technology in driving economic growth, connecting communities, and creating opportunities for young people. He noted that the engagement demonstrated a shared commitment to positioning Oshana as a center for digital innovation.

Minister Theofelus reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an inclusive digital society and ensuring equitable access to digital opportunities across all communities. She emphasized the importance of stakeholder consultation in shaping policies and solutions that respond to local needs, particularly in areas related to connectivity and service delivery.

Representatives from NamPost, MTC, Telecom Namibia, and the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia also presented ongoing and planned ICT projects aimed at expanding digital access and improving infrastructure across the region.

The discussions focused on identifying practical solutions to improve connectivity, strengthen digital infrastructure, and enhance access to ICT services for communities throughout the Oshana Region.
