The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use marked World Environment Day 2026 with a high-level climate dialogue in Accra, convening stakeholders from government, diplomatic institutions, academia, development organisations, media, youth groups, and the private sector.

The event focused on advancing practical climate solutions. Prof. Emmanuel Wendsongré Ramdé, Executive Director of WASCAL, reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to translating climate science into scalable and inclusive solutions through the Climate Change Action Now initiative launched in 2025.

Remarks were delivered by Ms. Annassi Kerstin on behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, while Mr. Moses Ayamba, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, represented Ghana’s Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability. A keynote address by Nana Sean Yaw Adjei Sikapa Agyeman stressed the need to ensure climate research informs policy, community action, innovation, and sustainable implementation.

Activities included solidarity messages from partner institutions, a panel discussion titled “From Global Commitments to Practical Implementation – Youth, Science and Diplomacy for Climate Action,” contributions from the WASCAL CCAN Executive represented by Dr. Daniel Ofori, a climate action pledge, and a symbolic tree-planting exercise.

Dr. Seyni Salack delivered closing remarks, reinforcing the collective responsibility to accelerate climate resilience through partnerships, science, youth engagement, and implementation-focused action.
