The Office of the Data
Protection Commissioner (ODPC), in partnership with the Network Service
Providers Association of Kenya (NESPAK), has hosted a two-day Data Protection
Training Programme to enhance compliance with data protection requirements
among internet service providers, data centres and infrastructure providers.
The programme brought
together NESPAK members who carry, store and process large volumes of personal
data for subscribers, businesses and institutions.
It aims to raise awareness
of the rights of data subjects and the duties of data controllers and
processors, facilitate hands-on registration of members with the ODPC, and
strengthen compliance capacity in lawful data processing, security safeguards,
breach notification and cross-border data transfers.
The collaboration deepens
cooperation between the regulator and industry in building a secure and trusted
digital Kenya, where compliance is both a legal requirement and a foundation
for customer trust.
