Kenya’s National
Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA) has held its inaugural Board meeting following its
formal inauguration on November 2, 2026, at Harambee House in Nairobi, marking
a step towards strengthening the country’s national cybersecurity governance, coordination
and resilience.
The meeting was chaired by
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba
Murkomen, and attended by the ministry’s Principal Secretary, Dr Raymond
Omollo.
Dr Martin Koyabe, the newly
appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the NCSA Board of Directors, said the
meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening Kenya’s national
cybersecurity framework.
The Cabinet Secretary
underscored that cybersecurity extends far beyond ICT, describing it as
fundamental to national security, economic stability, public safety and the
protection of Kenya’s sovereignty.
He emphasised the need to
build the capacity of the National Cybersecurity Operations Centre (NCSOC) to
detect, analyse and coordinate responses to cyber threats in real time.
The Board was also urged to
promote Kenyan expertise, local research and indigenous technological solutions
while strengthening collaboration with universities and research institutions.
According to Koyabe, the
Agency’s immediate priority is to establish its human resource and operational
structures, followed by the transparent recruitment of qualified Kenyan
professionals.
Dr Omollo highlighted the
Agency’s role in strengthening Kenya’s national capacity to anticipate,
prevent, detect and respond effectively to emerging cyber threats.
On behalf of the Board and
the Acting Director-General, Stephen Obare, Koyabe expressed gratitude to the
President of the Republic of Kenya and the government for entrusting the Board
with the responsibility of providing strategic leadership, oversight and
governance of the Agency.
He reaffirmed the Board’s
commitment to discharging its mandate with diligence and integrity while
strengthening Kenya’s national cybersecurity governance, coordination and
resilience.
