More
than 2,000 students at Queen Njinga University in Mbande, Malanje Province, are
set to benefit from free internet access following the launch of satellite
connectivity powered by ANGOSAT-2.
The
initiative was officially launched by the Ministry of Telecommunications,
Information Technologies and Social Communication in collaboration with GGPEN
and other partners, under the Conecta Angola Comercial project.
The
installed infrastructure, located at the university’s rectory, provides
connectivity through strategically placed access points across key locations,
including the library, computer room, student association, and central
courtyard. The service is expected to support over 2,400 students enrolled in
programmes such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, clinical psychology,
mathematics, and social sciences.

Officials
say the deployment will enhance access to digital learning platforms,
scientific research resources, and academic tools, strengthening the
institution’s teaching and learning environment.
The
launch event also featured a session of the Space Gatherings Podcast, attended
by key stakeholders including Mário Oliveira, Malanje Governor Marcos Alexandre
Nhunga, university leadership, and representatives from regulatory and academic
institutions.
Discussions
focused on the role of space technology in advancing higher education and
national development, including opportunities for innovation and
entrepreneurship using ANGOSAT-2.
The
initiative forms part of broader government efforts to promote digital
inclusion, expand connectivity in underserved areas, and leverage space-based
technologies to support socio-economic development in Angola.
