MTN
Group has announced a series of changes to its Board of Directors, including
the appointment of five new independent non-executive directors as part of its
succession planning and governance strategy.
Effective
31 March 2026, Herman Bosman, Advocate Ouma Rasethaba, Stéphane Richard,
Ignatius Sehoole and Saf Yeboah-Amankwah will join the Board, bringing a range
of expertise expected to support the Group’s ambitions to expand digital and
financial inclusion across Africa.
At
the same time, long-serving non-executive directors Stan Miller and Nkululeko
Sowazi will retire at the company’s annual general meeting scheduled for 29 May
2026, after nearly a decade of service.
Chairman
Mcebisi Jonas said the changes form part of a broader succession plan aligned
with the company’s Ambition 2030 strategy. He noted that the Board would
temporarily expand during the transition period before gradually reducing in
size as retirements take effect.
Jonas
expressed appreciation to the outgoing directors for their contributions in
guiding the company through key phases of growth and transformation, and
welcomed the incoming members, highlighting their expected role in
strengthening governance and strategic oversight.
The
Group also announced leadership changes at its subsidiary, MTN South Africa.
Mike Harper will step down as Chairman on 31 March 2026 after nearly ten years
in the role, with Sindi Mabaso Koyana set to assume the position from 1 April
2026. Noluthando Gosa will also join the MTN South Africa Board while
continuing her role at the Group level.
The
company said the changes are aimed at reinforcing leadership capacity as it
advances its long-term growth and digital transformation objectives.
