Ministers
responsible for telecommunications, information and communication technology,
and digitalization from member states of the Economic Community of West African
States convened in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for the bloc’s 20th Ministerial
Session aimed at shaping the future of the region’s digital economy.

The
high-level meeting brought together policymakers from across West Africa to
discuss strategies for accelerating digital transformation and strengthening
regional integration. It followed several days of technical sessions involving
experts, whose deliberations informed the key issues presented to ministers.
Discussions
centered on the growing importance of digitalization as a driver of economic
growth, innovation and inclusion across the region. Participants examined
policy frameworks, infrastructure development, and collaborative approaches
needed to build a more connected and competitive digital ecosystem in West
Africa.

The
session underscored increasing recognition among ECOWAS member states of the
role of technology in advancing socio-economic development and enhancing
cross-border cooperation.
