Global
leaders and policymakers have called for a more integrated and collaborative
approach to addressing global health challenges during the One Health Summit
held in Lyon, France.
The
high-level roundtable, hosted by Emmanuel Macron, brought together key
international figures including President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, Duma
Boko, Sania Nishtar, Qu Dongyu, and representatives from global institutions
such as the World Bank and the Wellcome Trust.
Discussions
focused on the interconnected nature of modern global challenges, including
climate change, biodiversity loss, pandemics and antimicrobial resistance, and
the need for coordinated responses that span human, animal and environmental
health systems.
Participants
emphasized that while scientific knowledge exists, it often remains fragmented
and insufficiently integrated into policy and decision-making processes.
Strengthening collaboration across institutions, disciplines and countries was
highlighted as essential to translating research into actionable solutions.
The
summit reinforced the importance of international cooperation, capacity
building and inclusive scientific engagement, with a strong call to empower
younger generations and foster cross-sector partnerships to address complex
global health risks.
