The
National Information Technology Authority-Uganda has conducted a training
programme for contractors and consultants under the Uganda Digital Acceleration
Project, aimed at enhancing compliance with environmental and social safeguard
standards.
The
session, held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, focused on building capacity in
environmental and social risk management, occupational health and safety, and
adherence to World Bank safeguard requirements.

Participants
included stakeholders involved in key digital initiatives such as Service
Uganda Centres, data centre upgrades, and digital inclusion programmes
targeting persons with disabilities.
Officials
said the training was designed to strengthen understanding of safeguard
frameworks to support effective and responsible project implementation, while
ensuring alignment among stakeholders on compliance obligations.

The
programme also emphasized accountability and the importance of integrating
sustainability considerations into project execution, as Uganda continues to
expand its digital infrastructure and services.
The
initiative forms part of NITA-U’s broader efforts under UDAP to ensure that
digital transformation projects deliver long-term value while protecting
communities and the environment.
