Tanzania
has officially launched 758 communication towers and received newly developed
fibre infrastructure from a consortium of telecom operators, marking a major
milestone in the country’s digital infrastructure expansion.
The
event, attended by Samia Suluhu Hassan as guest of honor, underscored the
government’s commitment to improving nationwide connectivity and advancing
digital inclusion.

Yas
Tanzania was among the key contributors to the initiative, delivering
approximately 33 percent of the total towers deployed. The company also
upgraded its sites from 2G to 4G using its own investment, enhancing network
capacity and service quality.
The
infrastructure rollout is expected to expand access to reliable and high-speed
communication services, particularly in underserved and remote areas,
supporting broader participation in the digital economy.

Officials
highlighted that the handover of fibre infrastructure to the government will
further strengthen the country’s connectivity backbone, enabling more efficient
service delivery and fostering economic growth through improved digital access.
The
initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between the public and private
sectors to build a more inclusive and resilient telecommunications ecosystem in
Tanzania.
