Accra Technical University (ATU) has launched its Strategic Plan (2026–2030), outlining an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening the institution’s role as a leading hub for industry-relevant education, emerging technologies, and sustainable development in Africa.

The plan, unveiled is the outcome of extensive stakeholder consultations, institutional assessments, and benchmarking against global best practices. It is designed to reposition the university to better respond to evolving labour market demands and national development priorities.

According to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, the strategy reflects a deliberate shift towards a more intentional, adaptive, and industry-oriented technical education model. He noted that the plan places strong emphasis on aligning teaching, research, and innovation with real-world challenges.

The strategic framework is anchored on seven key pillars: competency-based and future-ready teaching and learning; digital transformation and modern infrastructure; quality assurance and institutional excellence; industry-driven applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship; staff development and welfare; strategic partnerships and visibility; and sustainability and green technology.

The development of the plan followed broad engagement with stakeholders, including academic staff, industry partners, and policymakers. It also aligns with national development priorities and global frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking at the launch, stakeholders, including the Chairman of the ATU Governing Council, Prof. Ernest Kofi Abotsi, and the Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Newman, emphasized that the success of the strategy will depend on effective implementation and measurable outcomes.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to not only preparing graduates for employment but also equipping them with the skills to innovate, solve problems, and contribute to industrial transformation.
