The
Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has convened a
Cybercrime Bill Validation Workshop aimed at strengthening Namibia’s legal
framework for online safety and digital security.
In
his welcoming remarks, Deputy Minister of ICT, Hon. Wenzel Kavaka, described
the proposed legislation as a key step toward creating a safer and more secure
digital environment for all users in Namibia.

He
noted that the Bill is designed to address a range of cyber threats, including
online fraud, hacking, identity theft, and the misuse of digital platforms,
while also safeguarding individuals, businesses, and critical national
infrastructure.
The
workshop brought together stakeholders from government institutions, law
enforcement agencies, the private sector, civil society, and ICT experts to
review the draft legislation and provide input ahead of its finalisation.

Hon.
Kavaka encouraged participants to contribute practical and constructive
recommendations to ensure the law is comprehensive, inclusive, and responsive
to emerging digital risks.
The
consultation forms part of broader national efforts to strengthen cybersecurity
governance and build public trust in Namibia’s growing digital ecosystem.
