The
Kenya Agricultural Data and Information Centre (KADIC) has engaged
parliamentary committees to present its vision for a unified, data-driven
agricultural sector, alongside a proposed Bill to establish the institution in
law.
The
discussions, held with the Senate and National Assembly Committees on
Agriculture, form part of broader government efforts to modernise the
agricultural sector through strengthened legislation, improved coordination,
and enhanced productivity.

KADIC
is being positioned as a national hub for agricultural data, analytics, and
digital innovation, with a mandate to integrate fragmented systems into a
single platform. The initiative aims to support more effective decision-making,
improve service delivery to farmers, and enhance performance across
agricultural value chains.
The
proposed legislation is expected to provide a comprehensive legal framework for
data governance, system integration, and institutional coordination within the
sector.
Officials
noted that the establishment of KADIC will contribute to increased efficiency
and productivity, promote climate-smart agriculture, improve market access and
traceability for exports, and enable evidence-based planning and investment.

The
Centre reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Parliament, government
agencies, county authorities, and development partners to build a modern,
competitive, and digitally enabled agricultural ecosystem.
The
initiative is seen as a key step in supporting Kenya’s broader goals of
achieving food security and driving economic transformation through innovation
and data-driven approaches.
