MTN
Group and its major subsidiary MTN South Africa have sustained their Level 1
Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) contributor status for 2025,
marking the sixth consecutive year for the Group and the seventh for MTN South
Africa.
The
achievement is outlined in MTN’s annual B-BBEE compliance report, which was
independently verified and highlights the company’s continued performance
across key transformation indicators.
MTN
Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita said the sustained rating reflects the
company’s long-term commitment to linking business success with broader
societal progress, noting that transformation remains central to MTN’s
operating philosophy.
The
B-BBEE framework in South Africa is designed to address historical economic
inequalities, expand participation in the economy, and strengthen long-term
economic resilience. MTN said its strategy of creating shared value continues
to support digital and financial inclusion across its markets.
According
to the report, MTN’s performance was driven by strong outcomes in skills
development, enterprise and supplier development, and socio-economic
development. The company also reported continued progress in leadership
transformation across its governance structures.
During
2025, MTN supported 492 learnerships, graduate programmes, and targeted skills
initiatives aimed at building digital and technical competencies to improve
employability and participation in the digital economy.
The
company also reported significant procurement spending aimed at supporting
inclusive growth, including R8.8 billion spent with 51 percent Black-owned
suppliers and R11.6 billion with 30 percent Black women-owned suppliers.
MTN
South Africa CEO Ferdi Moolman noted that the company’s procurement and skills
development strategies are designed to drive economic impact beyond compliance
requirements.
Through
its foundation initiatives, MTN said it continued to expand access to education
and digital inclusion, including the MTN Online School, which reached 905,000
learners, and the MTN Skills Academy, which supported over 25,000
beneficiaries.
MTN
reaffirmed its commitment to embedding transformation across its value chain,
focusing on procurement, skills development, enterprise support, and community
investment to advance inclusive economic growth and digital connectivity across
South Africa.
