Egypt is seeking to strengthen its position as a regional electronics manufacturing hub following discussions between the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hendy, and executives of HONOR on expanding smartphone production in the country.

The meeting, which included senior government officials and representatives from the telecommunications and technology sector, focused on the company’s plans to scale up mobile phone manufacturing through its facility in 10th of Ramadan City in partnership with Etisal Trading.

Officials said the expansion forms part of HONOR’s broader strategy to position Egypt as a key base for its operations in the Middle East and Africa, targeting both domestic demand and export markets under the “Made in Egypt” label.

Discussions also covered the development of existing production lines and the transfer of advanced manufacturing technologies to local professionals, aimed at enhancing technical capacity and aligning with global industry standards.

Hendy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a fully integrated mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem, highlighting the role of national expertise combined with international partnerships in strengthening production capabilities and driving economic growth.

He noted that the Ministry is working to create an enabling investment environment through incentives and policy support under the Egypt Makes Electronics initiative, designed to attract global manufacturers and generate employment opportunities.

HONOR’s leadership expressed interest in deepening its presence in Egypt, citing the importance of collaboration with local partners in delivering competitive, high-quality devices for both local and regional markets.

The company’s manufacturing facility, currently in its trial phase, is expected to be officially inaugurated later this year. The plant has an annual production capacity of approximately three million units and is projected to create around 1,000 jobs for skilled workers.

The investment is seen as a strategic step in advancing Egypt’s ambitions to become a leading technology manufacturing hub while supporting export growth and industrial development.
