Ethiopia
has entered into a new collaboration with The World Academy of Sciences to
advance cooperation in science, technology and innovation as part of efforts to
strengthen the country’s research and development ecosystem.
The
agreement was reached following discussions between the Ministry of Innovation
and Technology and TWAS, focusing on strategic partnerships, regional
connectivity, and alignment with Ethiopia’s national development priorities.

Minister
of Innovation and Technology, Beisa Dada, said deepening engagement with TWAS
is critical to enhancing the effectiveness of Ethiopia’s science, technology
and innovation agenda and positioning the country for greater impact within the
global scientific community.
The
partnership is expected to support Ethiopia in building a more inclusive and
competitive innovation ecosystem while increasing its participation in
international scientific cooperation frameworks.
Director
General of TWAS, Marcelo Knobel, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to
supporting Ethiopia’s scientific development through capacity building,
advanced training, research collaboration, and leadership development.

Both
parties agreed to collaborate on key areas including technology transfer,
entrepreneurship, and industrial cooperation, with a focus on driving
innovation-led economic growth.
The
initiative also aims to strengthen research in priority sectors such as health,
climate science, and digital technology, contributing to Ethiopia’s ambition to
emerge as a leading science and policy hub in Africa.
