South
Africa and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening
bilateral cooperation in the digital economy following a meeting between South
Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi,
and the United States Ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell III.
The
discussions focused on the longstanding relationship between the two countries
and opportunities to expand collaboration in areas critical to digital
transformation, innovation, and economic growth.
According
to Minister Malatsi, the engagement highlighted significant untapped potential
for enhanced economic cooperation, particularly within the information and
communications technology (ICT) sector. Both parties explored ways to leverage
innovation, investment, and technology partnerships to create opportunities for
businesses and citizens in both countries.
The
meeting also examined prospects for collaboration on digital infrastructure
development, with emphasis on identifying mutually beneficial investment
opportunities that can support connectivity, technological advancement, and
broader economic development.
Officials
noted that stronger cooperation in the digital sector could contribute to
advancing shared interests while fostering sustainable growth and
competitiveness in an increasingly digital global economy.
The
engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by South Africa to strengthen
international partnerships that support its digital transformation agenda and
accelerate investment in strategic technology sectors. Both sides expressed
optimism about future collaboration and the potential for deeper engagement
across a range of digital economy initiatives.
