The Third Arab Postal Leaders Forum has officially opened in Rabat, Morocco, bringing together postal operators, regulators and industry stakeholders to explore the future of postal services in an increasingly digital and e-commerce-driven economy.

Organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in partnership with Poste Maroc (Barid Al Maghrib), the forum is being held under the theme “Transforming Postal Supply Chains and Digital Trade Networks for an E-Commerce Driven Future.”

The event is serving as a platform for discussions on e-commerce growth, regional logistics integration, digital transformation and the modernization of postal networks, as countries across the Arab region seek to strengthen their role in the evolving digital economy.

Speaking during the opening session, Ryad Mezzour emphasized the importance of logistics, connectivity and digital trade in driving economic growth, competitiveness and regional integration. He noted that efficient supply chains and modern digital infrastructure are increasingly essential to supporting commerce and economic development.

Also addressing participants, Masahiko Metoki highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation and inclusive transformation in helping postal operators adapt to the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital economy.

A key session during the forum focused on “Reinventing Postal Networks for the E-Commerce Economy,” examining how postal operators are evolving from traditional mail service providers into integrated parcel delivery, logistics and digital commerce platforms.

Panelists discussed strategies for automation and network modernization, the use of data-driven operations and digital services, workforce development to meet changing market demands, and the importance of leveraging the postal sector’s established strengths, including public trust, extensive reach and universal service obligations.

As the forum continues, participants are expected to examine customer-centric service innovation, last-mile delivery solutions, regional logistics networks and investment approaches aimed at supporting the next generation of postal and digital trade infrastructure across the Arab region.

The discussions reflect a growing recognition of the postal sector’s role in enabling e-commerce growth, facilitating trade and supporting digital transformation efforts in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
