Rwanda and Togo have signed
three agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding
cooperation between the two countries on the sidelines of the 81st United
Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.
The agreements were signed
by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier
Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, and Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation,
African Integration and Togolese Abroad, Prof. Robert Dussey.
The agreements comprise a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations, an MoU
establishing a Joint Commission for Cooperation, and a Framework Agreement for
Cooperation.
The signing followed a
bilateral meeting between the two ministers in New York, where they discussed
strengthening relations between Rwanda and Togo.
The MoU on Political
Consultations provides a framework for regular engagement between the two
countries on matters of mutual interest, while the agreement establishing a
Joint Commission for Cooperation is intended to provide an institutional
mechanism for advancing bilateral cooperation.
The Framework Agreement for
Cooperation establishes a broader basis for collaboration between Rwanda and
Togo across areas to be pursued under their bilateral relationship.
The agreements were
concluded as part of Rwanda’s diplomatic engagements on the margins of UNGA81,
where countries are holding bilateral meetings and pursuing opportunities to
deepen international and regional cooperation.
