Zimbabwe is seeking to
deepen engagement with Google on artificial intelligence, digital skills
development, research and home-grown innovation as the country advances its
digital transformation agenda.
Minister of Information
Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera said
she participated in an engagement between President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa and
Google Senior Vice President James Manyika, describing the meeting as a significant
engagement for Zimbabwe’s digital future.
According to Mavetera, the
meeting provides an opportunity to strengthen dialogue around artificial
intelligence, digital skills development, research and the development of
home-grown innovation.
She said the engagement also
signals Zimbabwe’s growing visibility on the global technology stage and
reflects the country’s commitment to building a robust and future-ready digital
economy.
The Minister said the
Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services remains committed to translating
strategic engagements of this nature into tangible opportunities for young
people, innovators and entrepreneurs.
Mavetera said such efforts
are important to building a digital Zimbabwe capable of competing globally
while ensuring that opportunities created through technological development are
not left untapped.
The engagement with Google
comes as Zimbabwe continues to position digital technologies, artificial
intelligence, skills development, research and innovation as important
components of its future economic development.
Mavetera said the country’s
digital future requires continued engagement and collaboration that can create
opportunities for its people and strengthen Zimbabwe’s participation in the
global technology ecosystem.
“The future is digital,”
Mavetera said, adding that Zimbabwe is ready to pursue the opportunities
presented by the digital economy.
