The
Smart Africa, in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) through the Digital Investment Facility (DIF), has
launched a process to develop Senegal’s national strategy for financing digital
infrastructure.
The
initiative was formally introduced during a workshop held on 11 May 2026 in
Dakar, bringing together government representatives, telecom operators, and key
stakeholders in the digital infrastructure ecosystem.

Discussions
focused on the challenges and opportunities associated with expanding
resilient, inclusive, and sustainable digital infrastructure, as well as
identifying viable financing mechanisms to support Senegal’s long-term digital
development ambitions.
Participants
underscored the importance of coordinated investment frameworks to accelerate
digital transformation and strengthen connectivity across the country in line
with national priorities.

The
workshop marks an early step in shaping a structured financing strategy aimed
at supporting Senegal’s broader digital economy agenda and infrastructure
expansion goals.
