Africa CDC Team Europe MAV+
and the African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative have convened African and
international vaccine manufacturers in Dakar for a workshop focused on
technology transfer project management and strengthening Africa’s local vaccine
production capacity.
The workshop brought
together leading stakeholders from the vaccine manufacturing sector to provide
technical training and facilitate collaboration on critical areas required to
advance vaccine manufacturing across the continent.
Discussions and practical
sessions covered topics including licensing processes, process validation,
regulatory strategy, and financial sustainability as participants explored
approaches to improving Africa’s vaccine production ecosystem.
Organisers said the
initiative was designed not only to strengthen technical expertise but also to
foster partnerships and networks among manufacturers, innovators, and health
sector stakeholders committed to improving Africa’s health security.
The engagement forms part of
broader continental efforts to reduce Africa’s dependence on imported vaccines
by building sustainable local manufacturing capabilities and strengthening
regional pharmaceutical resilience.
Participants also examined
the role of technology transfer and coordinated regulatory systems in
accelerating the development of vaccine manufacturing infrastructure and
supporting long-term public health preparedness across the continent.
