Ghana
has intensified preparations to host the 15th Africa Internet Governance Forum
(AfIGF 2026), scheduled to take place in Accra from 2 to 5 November 2026, with
government outlining a structured agenda aimed at strengthening Africa’s
digital governance framework.
The
announcement was made during the official press briefing and inauguration of
the 35-member Local Organising Committee, where the Minister for Communication,
Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), presented
the strategic direction for the continental forum.

The
Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations stated that the
forum will focus on key priority areas including strengthening Africa’s voice
in global digital governance, advancing policy discussions on artificial
intelligence and emerging technologies, promoting cybersecurity and digital
trust, expanding digital inclusion and meaningful connectivity, and enhancing
youth and gender participation in digital policy processes.
As
part of the preparations, the AfIGF 2026 programme will include a five-day
African School on Internet Governance designed to build capacity among young
and emerging digital leaders across the continent.

Officials
indicated that the forum is expected to provide a platform for
multi-stakeholder dialogue and actionable outcomes that will shape Africa’s
digital policy direction and governance frameworks.
Ghana’s
hosting of AfIGF 2026 is positioned as part of its broader digital
transformation agenda and its ambition to play a leading role in continental
technology and innovation policy development.
