The Ministry of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs of Senegal has reaffirmed its commitment
to strengthening national cybersecurity and regional cooperation following its
participation in a regional workshop on ransomware held in Dakar from 16 to 18 June
2026.
The workshop was organised
by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with
the Government of the United States of America, and brought together experts,
investigators, regulators and policymakers to address the growing threat of
ransomware attacks on public institutions and critical infrastructure.
Discussions over the
three-day programme focused on strengthening mechanisms for prevention,
detection and response to cyber threats, as well as improving coordination
among national and regional stakeholders. Participants also shared experiences
and best practices aimed at enhancing resilience against increasingly
sophisticated cyberattacks targeting governments and essential services.
The Ministry’s participation
underscored Senegal’s strategic commitment to cybersecurity development in line
with its national digital transformation priorities, including Senegal Vision
2050 and the New Deal for Technology, which place digital trust, infrastructure
resilience and technological sovereignty at the centre of national development
policy.
According to the Ministry,
strengthening capacity building, promoting information sharing and deepening
international cooperation remain key pillars in building a secure and resilient
cyberspace capable of protecting citizens, businesses and public institutions.
The engagement also reflects
broader regional efforts to enhance cybersecurity preparedness across Africa as
digital systems become increasingly central to governance, economic activity
and public service delivery.
