ITU Secretary-General and South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister discuss AI, cybersecurity, and online child protection

The Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin, has held high-level discussions with South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, Bae Kyung-hoon, focusing on key global digital priorities including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and online child safety.

The meeting, held in the Republic of Korea, brought together both parties to review shared policy priorities and explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in emerging technology governance and digital safety frameworks.

Discussions placed particular emphasis on the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence, the need for stronger global cybersecurity resilience, and the protection of children in online environments as digital platforms continue to expand.

Both sides acknowledged significant alignment in their approaches to digital transformation and expressed commitment to advancing collaborative efforts in these areas.

The engagement is expected to support ongoing partnership between the International Telecommunication Union and the Republic of Korea in promoting safe, inclusive, and resilient digital ecosystems globally.
