Rwandan President Paul
Kagame has pledged to champion Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) at the
African Union level following a meeting with members of the newly launched
Private Sector CEOs DPI Coalition at Urugwiro Village in Kigali.
President Kagame received
the delegation yesterday, led by AfricaNenda Foundation Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Robert Ochola and Dr. James Mwangi of Equity Group, who co-lead the
coalition.
The meeting also brought
together private sector leaders, including Premier Oiwoh of Nigeria Inter-Bank
Settlement System PLC and Robert Karanja of DPI4Africa.
Discussions focused on
advancing interoperable digital payment systems across the continent, expanding
financial inclusion for individuals and businesses, and strengthening the
economic integration needed to achieve the objectives of the African Continental
Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The coalition is seeking to
work with President Kagame to translate the commitment to Digital Public
Infrastructure into practical outcomes across Africa.
President Kagame’s pledge to
champion DPI at the African Union level is expected to support efforts to
advance digital payments, financial inclusion and continental economic
integration.
