The
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General, Doreen
Bogdan-Martin, has participated in the launch of a Global AI Hub in Seoul,
alongside South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and United Nations partners.
The
initiative brings together global stakeholders to strengthen cooperation on
artificial intelligence governance, with a focus on ensuring that AI
development is inclusive, safe, and benefits all countries equally.

The
launch comes amid growing international concern over the risk that unregulated
or uneven AI development could widen existing digital divides and deepen
socio-economic inequalities between and within nations.
Speaking
at the event, the ITU Secretary-General emphasized the importance of
coordinated global action to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed
and deployed in ways that serve everyone, everywhere. She noted that
initiatives such as the Global AI Hub are critical in addressing disparities in
access to AI technologies, while promoting shared standards for responsible
innovation.

The
Global AI Hub is expected to function as a platform for policy dialogue,
technical collaboration, and capacity building among governments, international
organizations, and industry stakeholders. It will also support efforts to align
AI development with global development priorities, including digital inclusion
and equitable access to emerging technologies.
The
launch underscores growing momentum within the United Nations system and
partner governments to establish more coordinated governance frameworks for
artificial intelligence at a time of rapid technological advancement.
